 Creation Story

Once upon a time, there was a loving Maori couple called Papatuanuku and Ranginui, the earth mother and sky father. In between them were their children. Their children were in darkness and were squished. One day Tane Mahuta, Tangaroa and their other brothers had a meeting with their parents. That is when Tane Mahuta and his other brothers started to separate them. Tane Mahuta placed his shoulders on his mother, and used his legs to push his father up. He was not strong enough to do it by himself, so his brothers helped. Tawhirimatea and Rongomatane were not very happy. Then Tane pushed and pushed and their parents were separated.They finally had lightness and freedom. Ranginui will cry his tears, wanting papatuanuku to get back together and his tears would flood the land and become big lakes,rivers and seas. Now there was a brother that wasn't happy that Tane separated his parents and lived with his father in the sky and he was Tawhirimatea who became the god of the winds and he would blow his Rery faga heavens and his perilous winds and lets the sun shine bright and there would be a mountains and lakes.
